A post in parts. Part 1

Okay, to get caught up, because I am once again woefully behind, I will be posting in parts. A bit of vacation here, a bit there, yarn here, finished knits there. You know, break it up to make it a bit less overwhelming. So onto vacation. I'll go chronologically to keep it a bit easier.

Friday the 17th, Ellie and I set out. That night we spent in a great hotel in Albany - at a very wonderful exit that had a Christmas Tree Store (we stopped there on the way home, but I'm getting ahead of myself).Very swanky - and good shampoo to boot. Can't ask for much more. So Saturday was spent on the NY Thruway and the Massachusetts Turnpike (love that the Pike signs have Pilgrim's hats on them, I am still easily amused). And then we arrived at the beach house, in lovely Hyannis. Just so I don't keep you in suspense, I am not engaged or married to a Kennedy, they were surprisingly elusive. Saturday night, we checked out our first beach, adjacent to the JFK Memorial.Sunday it was off to the beach. A gorgeous beach day - not too hot, very sunny. Funny thing about Cape Cod - there's almost no surf, which makes for boring beach photos, and bad boogie boarding. Oh well. The kids enjoyed making a sand castle, with an extra large moat.Miss Sarah is definitely a beach girl - couldn't get enough of the beach. That last picture? If you zoom in, you'll be able to see the Kennedy Compound.

Monday brought another gorgeous day, slightly cloudier than Sunday. And even though I got sunburnt on Sunday, I returned to the beach. Good thing too, it was the last beach day we got. Very depressing. That night we all packed up and went to a Cape Cod league baseball game. The Hyannis Mets vs. the Cotuit somethings. I can't remember what their mascot was, it was something funny, and I'm sure if you check the comments in the next couple of days, my brother will be able to tell you, you know, just in case you really really wanted to know and were unwilling to Google.
The game was fun. The mascot for Hyannis was an osprey - not an eagle. And he was very photogenic. All that was right in front of me, after I had asked him to strike a pose. However, all this was most distressing to Sarah, who, as many 2 year olds tend to be, was freaked out by the giant fuzzy bird. Everyone had a good time though, even if I don't know if Hyannis eeked out a win or not - we left during the 8th due to bed times and bugs.Alright, I think that's long enough for this post. Tune in later this week for the exciting continuation, and some knitting related content.

Well that didn't really work out

Okay, so I know I said that I would start blogging more regularly last time.... and it didn't happen, but this time it's true. I am officially on vacation. Last day at the hospital was yesterday. Woohoo! At this time next week, I should be somewhere in New York, on my way to the Official Family Vacay in Cape Cod! Very excited.

Anyway, to catch everyone up...
Elliott turned 3. Can't believe it. I think we all learned a really important lesson that day, save the fun toy present for last. Do not let a 3 year old open the baseball set first, because all he's going to want to do is go outside and play with it, no matter how many other presents are on the table to be opened. And Miss Aubrey is getting big. And more adorable all the time.Last weekend we went to the zoo. Fun times. My nephews are sadly going through a phase where they don't like to look at the camera when you ask them to, so the good pictures were few and far between.

Can I just say that I hat Blogger? This post is taking an absurdly long time to put together because it won't let me move my pictures like it normally does.So that's my new sock. To be worked on on vacation. I started it the other night and have only worked on it during my lunch breaks. The pattern is Circle Socks and I'm using Sereknity yarn in the colorway "Beach Glass" - perfect for vacation knitting.I also started this new lace stole. Because I'm crazy. It's Sherwood, using KnitPicks Palette yarn in Verdant Heather. With beads! And this is a Quant, using my Redwood Forest BFL handspun yarn. This one will be for mom, and then I've got another one to make for myself, probably using some blue and grey KnitPicks I've got.

On the knitting front, I have to tell you how happy I am that June is over. It became pretty clear to me that just about all project started/worked on in June had a curse upon them. Something major went wrong with just about all of them. That will be a post later this week, I think. Things are moving much smoother this month. Alright, I know this isn't the best blog post ever, but had to get caught up so that my brother would lay off a bit.

Major Recap

Okay dokey. We're coming out of radio silence. Sorry about that folks, It's been a bit crazy around here. This is a mostly real life post - as opposed to knitting life - so if that's what you're here for sorry to disappoint. Let's see, where to start?
Two weekends ago - that would be the 6th and 7th, started the busy-ness. Saturday morning saw me working in Sagamore Hills for the duathalon, again. On my way home I swung by to see if berry picking had started at Patterson's, it hadn't. But I had the urge to go pick, knowing that the next weekend was booked solid and then there wouldn't be any berries left. Anyway - long story short, me, Mom and Mrs J went out to Perry and picked. Lots. Yum.

Sunday was Mom's birthday. So it was family day. Much silliness on the parts of my ninja nephews:Miss Aubrey mostly slept, it's what she does best, but I did manage to get a shot of the whites of her eyes.Ellie had to work that night but she supplied the superb, non-WW approved cake.Mom's gonna be so mad I featured her on the blog - but she's in Jersey and can't hurt me at the moment. Anyway, when you're the birthday girl, you have to get at least one solo shot. The nephews continued in their particular brand on "good photo ops while eating cake" - I think we might have to trademark that for the two of them, wonder if Aubrey will join in the fun when she's old enough...Having picked strawberries the day before, we had some with the fruit salad, and I introduced my nephews to them. Funny to me that they had never tried them before, but my SIL doesn't like them (craziness). Elliott isn't too big on trying new things, so we'll try again next year. But Mason... wow, I think he ate 2 bowlfuls (is that a word?). He couldn't get enough. So I guess he's got a bit of the Colton blood in him. And speaking of strawberries, here's the shortcake that I made that Monday:It was fantastic, if I do say so myself. Mmmm, want some now.

Onto last weekend. Saturday I was up for WW, then met Bridget and Kaylee at the mall for some shopping. Then home to pack, then onto the Indians game with Dad (they lost sadly) then drove down to Columbus. I started a sock on the car ride down, plain vanilla, just to have something to work on that I didn't need to think about. Got through the leg and started the heel flap before bed that night- felt like I had finally gotten my knitting mojo back.

Sunday, was the big day. Commencement at Ohio State for Ellie. I'm sure that if she hasn't done a big post about it yet, she will soon, with more stuff that I wasn't around for. So here goes.Outside the Shoe before the ceremony. The sock as it was before I started knitting it in the Shoe.

Mom photo-ing me knitting the sock before the ceremony started.

All 8,165 graduates finally seated. Too bad we hadn't gotten to the faculty yet...

The nursing graduates had the balloons - which made for easy finding. If you click to embiggen the photo, and go 3 three people to the left of the orange banner, you'll find Ellie. One good thing about being at the start of the alphabet.

Filing out to get the actual diplomas, once again use the orange banner as your reference mark.

The balloon launch to mark the announcing of the School of Nursing.

The President of the University has a part-time job as an auctioneer. This is the actual conferring of the degrees on all 8K undergraduates.

The sock after the ceremony was over. More on it's progression at a later time.

Congratulations Ellie!

All together now: OH-IO!!!

Alright, so I've got 2 weeks of work at the hospital under my belt. Not loving it - like I knew I wouldn't, but it's not horrible. And it is going quickly, only 3 weeks left until vacation! Hard to believe that at the end of Wednesday, I'll be able to say I'm halfway done. The change in schedule has left me exhausted most nights, but I'm finally getting used to it. Which means that I'm finally getting more knitting done. I also joined the Y and went faithfully Monday through Thursday after work this week. The exercise has done me good, because yesterday at weigh-in, I was down 2 lbs, which put me at (drumroll please)... a total of 40 lbs lost!!! Insert Happy Dance here! And I think that's it for now. This has gotten long enough. I'll try not to go so long next time.

June Already

Wow, June. Wow. About a month ago I couldn't wait for this week - now, not so much. It's my last week at school - physicals were last night. So the next 3 days are all paperwork, cleaning, and moving. I found out yesterday that my basketball training room has to be empty by Friday. Ha. I would love to know exactly where they expect me to put everything. As it is, it's crazy enough putting everything into the inner office to attempt to stem theft over the summer. So that was my view last Saturday afternoon. My baseball team warming up for the Regional semis. A game that was originally scheduled for Thursday, but was rained out. Twice. What a game. 12 innings. Lost. Walk off homerun. Heartbreak. Due to the length, and use of all 3 decent pitchers, it probably would have been really hard to beat the team (that won 12-0 in 6 innings) we would have had to face on Sunday, but you never know.

It's been a weird spring like that - my boys track team imploded last week at regionals. The 2 relay teams that were supposed to win States didn't make it out (DQ'd). One boy got mono and couldn't do anything, one is still fighting appendicitis - he's going to States though, and the State champ in discus broke his throwing hand (the one that his college scholarship is based on) punching something a wall (I think) after his girlfriend broke up with him. Funny how things can all go wrong at once.

Anyway, Monday sees me working at the hospital. I'll try not to complain too much (but working in-patient when I'm an ATC is really stupid and I'm not happy about it). It is only for 5 weeks, then it's a week off before the family vacay to Cape Cod - I've heard reports that my nephew is already very excited - and then it's back to school to get ready for football. So I'm sure it'll all fly by and before we know it, I'll be complaining about whiny high schoolers again.
Onto the knitting type stuff. Sunday was the last day to turn things in for May projects in the House Cup. I managed to get something done for every class. The blanket was done in record time (finished it up on Thursday).
Pretty darn cute if you ask me. I did get a little tired of working on it because it was all blanket all week, but so glad to have it done. Maddie also likes it alot.
It's one of her new favorite sleeping spots. Never mind that there are 4 other blankets draped over various pieces of furniture in that same room.
I got this hat done as well. It's not my favorite, but it'll do. Kinda hard to see the pattern in that pic, sorry about that.
That's the progress on the fronts of the sweater. It seems to be going slower than the back did - I think because the initial burn to knit this has flickered out. Still love it - just don't have that crazy urge to work on it 24/7.
Because I finished up all the HP stuff early - I let myself spin this weekend. As you can see by the very full bobbins. I'm going to work on plying it up this weekend. It's gonna take forever. But it'll be very pretty laceweight - my first ever handspun lace weight! Gotta get myself worked up for it.

So with a new month comes new assignments for the House Cup. Not so in love with them this month. It's really hard to fit things that I wanted to get knitted into the assignments - and the "profs" are being very particular. The one that I do love is Defense Against the Dark Arts. This month is the study of Crucio - an Unforgiveable Curse, it causes excruciating pain - a form of torture. So the assignment is to work on a project that isn't finished due to the pain it causes you. Therefore, I will finally be finishing the Jewelled Steps socks. Yeah, from last March!
That's the start of the second sock. And the curse is continuing. The book knocked over a can of soda, I used the wrong needles to start and had to rip and re-start. Very cursed socks. Hopefully it gets better from here on out.
