Happy Birthday Miss Kaylee!

First off - have to wish a happy birthday to my god-daughter Kaylee. She's now 2. Appropriately enough, most of my blog fodder today has to do with her, even though neither she, nor her parents, read this blog. Oh well, I'm all about cute children pictures.

Last weekend was super. Friday Mom and I went to see "Mamma Mia!" - I highly recommend it. It was a lot of fun, and I had no idea that ABBA had so many good, fun songs. Saturday was the Irish Festival out at the Berea Fairgrounds. Another big thumbs up. Here's Miss Kaylee, looking slightly like a drowned rat, after being spritzed. (It was 95 degrees when there was a breeze!)
Mom and I were very happy to get to see Seamus Kennedy, he's one of our favorites! He's so much fun to watch and listen to.

She spent the whole set dancing around, it was too funny. Mom and I stayed for a good chunk of time, and besides Seamus, we got to enjoy The Elders, Seven Nations, and a local fave Brigid's Cross.

Sunday was Miss Kaylee's birthday party. I went over early to help set up the pool, and as soon as it was filled, wouldn't you know, massive thunderstorm hits. It P-O-U-R-E-D. But amazingly enough, it dried out in time for the kids to swim. Here's Miss Kaylee modelling the latest in toddler swimwear fashion.
After the pool, it was time for the pinata. Kaylee was a little too young to understand that she was suddenly allowed to hit something with a stick. All in all, a good day for a two year old. So we'll move on to the pathetic lack of knitting. I managed to finish the Luna Moth Shawl finally. I think that might have even happened the weekend before - oops, maybe I should blog more.And then I decided that I was so pleased with the fact that I had finally finished an actual lace project, I had to cast on for another one. There may be something wrong with me. I found a pattern on Ravelry for the Lattice Lace Wrap. It's really pretty, and very easy. Time consuming because I'm using beads, but I can't help it. I'm easily sucked in by shiny things.
That's as far as I've gotten, but like I said, there's not been much knitting happening. I did manage to finish something though. I whipped out this cute little dishrag in an evening.
It'll be for Liz's birthday. It's actually my first ever dishcloth. Why have I not knit these things before? What the heck is wrong with me? For some reason I didn't like to knit easy quick projects when I first started knitting. A scarf? Nah, I'd rather knit a cabled sweater. A dishcloth that can be knit in 3 hours? No way, I'd rather make complicated socks. Seriously. I'm an idiot.

And I did cast on another pair of socks, even though I swore to myself that I wouldn't until I finished at least one of the pairs that's in progress. hahaha. I started "Spring Forward" from the most recent edition of Knitty. They're quick and simple, and I could work on them the other night when I was at Ellie's catching up on most of this season's episodes of Army Wives. I'm using some Lorna's Laces, in the colorway "Somerset" that was purchased last year in Philly at Loop.
So, my vacation picture order finally came in. Which can only mean one thing... scrapbooking! So hopefully, in the next few days, I'll have some pages to show you, break the monotony of the knitting pics.

Knitting ADD

Okay, this last week has been a bit nutso with my knitting. Serious ADD. Which is leading to a case of startitis. Don't know why, but it is what it is. Slowly moving along on the Nagini socks. Finished my pretty pretty Clapotis, it's currently blocking.

Mildly disappointed. But only with me, not with the knitting. I don't think I made it long enough. I followed the directions, but I think it's a bit short. Of course, this is something that can't be realized until it's too late. Too late because the stitches are dropped, and there's just no way to go back and pick up and knit again. Oh well. It's still gorgeous.

And then, the other night. I got a message from knitting pal Maggie with a question about her current lace project. So I sat there looking at the pattern and trying to work it out in order to help her, and was unable to. So I finished the last few rows of the Clapotis, and had the urge to cast the shawl on in order to figure it out. It's how I am with puzzles, I can't help it. So, the Luna Moth shawl is now on the needles. I'm halfway through the second repeat. It's a nice easy repetitive lace pattern. Much less concentration than the Mystic Waters. I'm using KnitPicks Gloss yarn, in Dolphin. It's 70% merino, 30% silk. So great. And then on Saturday, I had to start the November Ruffle by Kate Jackson. The yarn has been sitting there for petting, because, seriously, the 100% alpaca Peruvian Tweed yarn, is so incredibly luscious. That's the only word to describe this yarn. LUSCIOUS. Don't know why I was so intent on knitting this, I won't wear it until the fall, and it's like 15" of stockinette. Oi. Oh well, it's dummy knitting, and everyone needs a little dummy knitting in their lives.

Yesterday, I got something finished. Here's my Wrightwood roving, all spun up and plied up into some yarn. It ended up being 100yds of sport/worsted yarn (It's 11 WPI which is right between the 2 weights).

Very glad I finished this. It was for the Project Spectrum Earth cycle, which ends at the end of this month. So I actually got it done on schedule. Yay me.
